The 3 founders, Jean-Michel Gévaudan, Marc Bonny and Jacques Kraemer, launched Gebeka Films in 1997.
Gebeka Films focuses on distributing (for french theatre releases) high-quality films that are critically and commercially conscious while still appealing to a young audience.

In 2018, Hildergarde, the holding company created by Reginald de Guillebon, (also owner of Folimage and Les Armateurs) acquired Gebeka Films.

Gebeka Films has facilitated the successful distribution and success of numerous films, such as Kirikou and the sorceress (1998), My neighbor Totoro (1999), The Boy who wanted to be a bear (2002), Kirikou and the wild beasts (2005), The secret of Kells (2009), The painting (2011) or My life as a Zucchini (2016).

The company currently manages a library of more than 100 titles.

Gebeka Films has also developed a co-production activity with Princes and princesses in the first place, and lately with well-awarded My Life As a Zucchini. Gebeka Films regularly collaborates with French and international companies, leaders in animation production.

The company has garnered a total of 3 Academy Award nominations for The secret of Kells (2009), A cat in Paris (2012) and My life as a Zucchini (2017).
